Anemia of chronic disease (ACD), the second most prevalent form of anemia after iron deficiency anemia, is a condition
associated with chronic diseases. Increasingly referred to as 'Anemia of inflammation', this type of anemia is to a large
extent immune driven and cytokine mediated. This article reviews the various factors interlinking periodontitis, a chronic
inflammatory condition with the pathogenesis of ACD. |
